Welcome to the world of black market surgeries. While these illegal procedures are cheaper than the competition, the “cost” is even greater. From unlicensed providers to unregulated substances, the results of these illegal procedures can be devastating.  Illegal cosmetic procedures are performed outside the medical profession’s legal regulations. In short, there are no rules.
These procedures can range from injectable treatments, like botox and fillers, to surgical procedures, such as liposuction and breast augmentation. Sought out by people looking to enhance their appearance, these black market surgeries can be life-ruining and sometimes even life-ending. What is the most dangerous surgery? Why are people risking their lives to get them? And how much can these cost?

5. Black Market Butt Lifts

A Brazilian butt lift, or BBL for short, works like this. Surgeons take fat from one part of your body, usually your hips, stomach, or thighs, and inject it into your buttocks to create a more rounded look. It can be safe when a licensed, reputable practitioner performs this procedure, but can cost you up to $12,000. The black market offers a similar service for $1,000. Saftey not included.
Unlicensed practitioners perform these black-market butt lifts without medical training. And that’s not even the worst of it. These “doctors” use a dangerous mixture of substances, such as silicone, petroleum jelly, and even cement, to inject into the buttocks. The results can be catastrophic, leading to severe infections, organ failure, and even death.

4. Lip Fillers

Hidden away in the back rooms of salons, a growing number of women are paying unlicensed practitioners to inject their lips with liquid silicone. Your lips are injected with liquid silicone to make them fuller. And sure, for a while, your pout is plumped up, but after that, things go south real quick. The silicone can move through your body and harden. This can cause tissue inflammation, discoloration, and a whole collection of bumps and deformities. If things get bad enough, you’ll need reconstructive surgery. Now would be a good time to mention, The Food and Drug Administration is not a fan of this procedure. The FDA does not approve the marketing of liquid silicone for injection for any cosmetic purpose.

3. Leg Lengthening

Wish you were taller? Well, theres a way. It’s just going to cost you $150,000 and a lot of pain. How much pain? Three months worth. You’ll have to endure your femur in each leg being broken and extendable metal nails being inserted. These nails will add 1 mm daily to your legs during your recovery time. The recovery process is extremely painful since muscle, nerves and tissue will all be stretched. It’s even worse on the black market. In a medical setting, you would be monitored for any adverse reactions and given appropriate care if needed. On the black market you’re on your own after the procedure, with no follow-up care or support.

2. Cement face injections

48-year-old Rajee Narinesingh had a terrifying problem. Her face was filled with cement. Yeah, you heard me. Cement. Rather than getting actual fillers from a medical professional, Narinesingh’s face was injected with tire sealant and cement. It started with a large boil on her face that kept getting bigger and bigger. Large lumps formed under her cheeks, lips, and chin in no time. As a result, she was forced to spend years in solitude because of her botched black market surgery. Thankfully for Narinesingh, she got help on the plastic surgery show, Botched. After a few careful procedures, the doctors removed the cement, taking a literal and figurative weight off her shoulders.

1. Pumping Parties

So imagine a Tupperware party, but instead of food, everybody injects silicone, super glue, and even Fix-A-Flat into their breasts and backsides. These “parties” take place in a location the “pumper” has arranged. It can be homes, apartments, warehouses, or even back alleys. You’ve probably noticed a theme here, but none of these “parties” have a medical professional in the room. This can result in complications such as infections, nerve damage, and even permanent disfigurement. So what did we learn from all this? It’s clear that these illegal plastic surgeries are incredibly dangerous and should be avoided at all costs. If you or someone you know is considering one of these procedures, it’s a better idea to seek out a licensed, reputable practitioner instead.  If something can be bought at a hardware store, chances are it doesn’t belong in your body. Remember, your health and safety should always come first.
But let’s say you did things by the book and didn’t bother with the black market. Legal surgical procedures can still come with their own set of risks. What’s the most dangerous cosmetic surgery you could have?
