A Crocodile Pulled Him Into Its Mouth, but He Knew Exactly Where to Hit

Crocodiles are among the most dangerous predators in the water. Their powerful jaws allow them to seize prey with enormous force, and once they have their target in their mouth, escaping can be extremely difficult.

Seven species of crocodiles are considered dangerous to humans, and attacks can be especially serious when people encounter them while swimming or fishing. Among them, the saltwater crocodile is one of the most formidable.

These enormous reptiles can grow up to 5 meters (17 feet) long and are found in parts of India, South Asia, and Australia. They are opportunistic predators that can attack a wide range of animals, and humans can also become targets when they enter the water.

Australian fisherman Craig Dickmann discovered just how dangerous they can be during a fishing trip. He was near the water when a crocodile suddenly attacked and grabbed one of his arms.

The crocodile caught his arm in its powerful jaws, leaving Dickmann trapped in an extremely dangerous position. Instead of giving up, he began fighting back while his hand was still inside the crocodile’s mouth.

Dickmann started punching the roof of the crocodile’s mouth with his trapped hand. The attack caused the animal to release him, but the danger was not over.

The crocodile grabbed him again, forcing Dickmann to continue fighting for his life. He knew that simply trying to overpower such a large predator was not realistic, so he targeted one of the animal’s most vulnerable areas.

He began punching the crocodile in the eye until the reptile finally released him. The crocodile had already torn his arm during the attack, but Dickmann managed to escape and receive medical attention.

His survival shows how quickly a seemingly ordinary fishing trip can turn into a fight for survival. A crocodile does not need much time to gain control of a person, especially when the attack happens suddenly from the water.

Saltwater crocodiles can also be extremely large. Some adults reach around 5 meters (17 feet) in length, giving them enormous strength and a powerful bite capable of inflicting devastating injuries.

Their hunting strategy makes encounters particularly dangerous because they can remain difficult to spot near the surface. An unsuspecting person may have very little warning before the animal strikes.

Dickmann’s experience also demonstrates why fighting back may become the only option when a crocodile has already grabbed someone. In his case, targeting the animal’s mouth and then its eye gave him an opportunity to break free.

What began as a normal fishing trip ended with a badly injured arm and a desperate struggle against one of the world’s most powerful reptiles. Dickmann survived, but the encounter showed just how dangerous getting close to crocodile habitat can be.
