The morning of her 22nd birthday, all Jacqueline Durand expected to do was drop in at a friend’s home to take care of two dogs. But that was to change, as she entered one of the most terrifying situations that can be imagined – a deadly dog attack.
It was on December 23rd, just a day before her birthday, that the house-sitter had been called in by a couple to keep an eye on their two dogs for the weekend. She knew the dogs as she’d met them a couple days previous in their owner’s presence. Jacqueline had never seen them act aggressively; however nothing could have prepared her for what lay waiting.
Her home-sit contract had indicated the dogs would be properly kenneled on the day Jacqueline was due to come by. They, in fact, texted Jacqueline prior to her arrival. Stating that they had been unable to keep them on that day as a result of some issues in the home.
On the front of the home itself, there was a red warning card; “Crazy Dogs.
Please Don’t Knock or Ring the Bell. Call or Text Instead.” warning guests in the house not to expect well behave dogs.
However as soon as Jacqueline opened the door to let herself into the house, she was assaulted without warning by a boxer/pit bull mix dog along with a German Shepherd in an onslaught which knocked the poor young woman to the ground and dragged her into the living room where it proceeded to continue with the attack for the next 30 minutes.
Jacqueline stated the only thing which ran through her head at times of this attack was the belief that she would lose her life in this vicious attack. At times it felt that portions of the skin of her face was tearing away; she screamed for help repeatedly while enduring the ordeal, yet it fell unheard through out house as a couple feet of flooring stood between her and the door.
The attack finally stopped because after Jacqueline lay in the door long enough, it got open by 3 feet, and the alarm sounded. The two dogs continued to bark ferociously at the home in the door to the police as they pulled up with in seconds, and their commands to have a second approach as she yelled for help.
For an agonizing 37 minutes, paramedics fought to make their way through to help the battered and broken young woman in side the home, who at this time had been in the living room for well over an hour now without any help whatsoever.
At this juncture they found Jacqueline laying in a pool of her own blood.
After much work they managed to rescue and stabilize the young girl by transporting her to the local hospital. The house was secured so that this time round it wouldn’t get out as easy; 872 bites later, as far as Jacqueline knows so far (and in progress of more scans to be sure the wounds don’t carry infection and to repair a number of cuts and bites on her body she still can not find in total).
Her left leg and entire face had been reconstructed during a brutal seven-hour emergency operation. Jacqueline underwent over a half dozen follow-up surgeries after as medical teams continue to reconstruct damage and heal her from one of the most horrific and agonizing pain people could endure.
In spite of a traumatic recovery, Jacqueline has made it her mission to share her recovery on social platforms, determined not to become a victim.
Jacqueline still has about fifty percent of her left leg that can not be restored, along with damaged nerves which affect her left side face from the ear back, all her entire nose has been reconstructed. After the dogs are taken into animal control on July 31, they face a judgment by a county official on their fates. Hopefully, after seeing my photos/stories these dog parents think about 2x.
