Doctors Gave Up on Her, Then She Beat Rabies Against All Odds


Rabies is one of the most terrifying diseases on Earth.

A single bite from an infected animal can begin a deadly race against time. Once the virus reaches the brain, survival becomes almost impossible.

She began experiencing symptoms including fever, weakness, confusion, and difficulty controlling her movements. By the time doctors realized she had rabies, the virus had already entered her nervous system.


Normally, this was the point where doctors had almost nothing left to offer. Once rabies symptoms appear, the disease is nearly always fatal.

Doctors knew that traditional treatment would not work, so they attempted something completely experimental. They placed Jeanna into a medically induced coma, slowing down her brain activity and giving her immune system more time to fight the infection.

The treatment was extremely risky. Nobody knew if it would succeed.

For days, doctors waited while Jeanna’s body battled against a virus that had killed almost everyone it infected. Her condition was closely monitored as the medical team hoped her immune system could do what seemed impossible.


Then something unexpected happened.

Jeanna survived.

She became the first known person to survive rabies after developing symptoms without receiving the standard vaccine beforehand. Her recovery shocked the medical community and changed research into possible rabies treatments.

Her case became known as the Milwaukee Protocol, an experimental approach that attempted to help the body fight the virus by protecting the brain during the critical stage of infection.

However, rabies remains one of the most dangerous diseases in the world.
