He Kissed a Cobra for Entertainment, Hours Later He Was Dead

Over the years, traditional snake charming has evolved into a more dangerous form of entertainment, with some performers taking extreme risks to attract crowds and attention. These snake stunt performers often handle venomous snakes in ways that can turn a show into a life threatening situation within seconds.

In 2023, 20 year old Abdul Manir was performing for locals in a village in Indonesia when he attempted to kiss his pet cobra. Instead of remaining still, the snake suddenly struck him on the nose.

Manir was rushed to a local clinic after the bite, but the cobra’s venom was extremely potent. According to reports, the venom began affecting his vital organs, and he died before he could be transferred to a hospital equipped to provide more advanced treatment.

The following year, another young man reportedly took an equally dangerous risk with a cobra. Mochi Shivaraj, a 20 year old from India, was filming a video while holding a cobra with the snake hanging from his mouth.

The stunt was reportedly intended to attract attention online, but the situation quickly turned deadly when the cobra bit him in the mouth. The venom entered his bloodstream, and he reportedly died within hours.

These incidents show how quickly a seemingly controlled interaction with a venomous snake can become fatal. Even experienced handlers can be bitten when a snake feels threatened, stressed or restrained.

One particularly disturbing incident involved an Indonesian man named Norjani, who reportedly had a reputation for performing dangerous stunts with animals. After capturing a massive king cobra measuring around 16.5 feet long, he decided to use the snake in a public performance for local villagers.

During the show, Norjani handled the enormous snake aggressively, including throwing it around in front of the crowd. Eventually, the king cobra fought back and bit him on the arm.

Instead of stopping the performance and immediately seeking medical treatment, Norjani reportedly pulled the snake away and continued with the show. He even began tapping the cobra on the head, apparently attempting to punish it for attacking him.

The situation became even more dangerous when the snake struck him in the face. Norjani continued wrestling with the giant reptile while nearby villagers kept their distance.

Later that evening, however, the effects of the venom began to catch up with him. Norjani became seriously ill and eventually went to a hospital, where he was given antivenom.

Unfortunately, the treatment came too late, and he died from the effects of the venom.

Cobras and king cobras are not performing props, and their behavior can change in an instant. What may appear entertaining to a crowd can become a deadly encounter when a venomous snake is deliberately provoked or handled recklessly.

For these performers, the consequences were devastating. In each case, a few seconds of dangerous entertainment ultimately became a fight for survival.
