China invading the U.S. is something that could turn the world on its head. Could the U.S. mobilize in time to respond? Would this be the start of World War III?
The United States has issued punishing tariffs on goods coming in from dozens of countries around the world, including steep tariffs on products made in China. China is one of the largest exporters of all kinds of products, from smartphones to medicine to clothing, and they’ve been hit the hardest by Trump’s tariffs.
One of the first actions that might happen would be the Invasion of Taiwan. This island country is also an essential part of U.S. foreign policy. America is committed to Taiwan’s self-defense. Once the news of the invasion of Taiwan reaches the U.S., America might try to send military aid to the island.

Any kind of attack from China would start with a Cyberattack. Anti-ballistic missile defenses are largely controlled by computer programs and algorithms, so China would try to disable them first to have the best chances.
The most likely route of an invasion by China would be through America’s ocean border to the west.
Now, the numbers on who has more assets – like jets, air carriers, or missiles fluctuate, but ultimately, the two countries would be fairly evenly matched on that front. If Chinese troops were to get past America’s defenses against missiles, jets, and submarines, their first task would be conquering California, where the majority of American troops are located.
Another major target is obviously Washington, D.C., but then, that’s on the other side of the country. China could use ballistic missiles, but the U.S. capital has a wide network of defences set up to protect itself.
Once this war begins, for the rest of the world, it’s a matter of picking sides.
The United States is a NATO country, so if China were to attack it, the other NATO countries would have to respond. China could get help from Russia, which, historically, has not had a good relationship with the U.S.
Now, because it’s so easy to own a gun in America, a lot of citizens have firearms. And more than one of them. This would provide the country with an extra layer of defense in addition to the regular army, outside of the ‘well-regulated militia.’
But, likely, most of the land-based battles would happen along the West Coast of America in larger cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Seattle. Regardless, in a war like this, there would be significant losses in the thousands on both sides. Everybody loses.
