Today, we’re turning you into a multi dimensional “super being.” You’ll be able to be anywhere and anyplace at any time you want. Walk through walls on a whim, melt through the steel doors of a bank vault, and just take what you want.
That doesn’t sound legal. But that stuff is just child’s play compared to what you can really do. You can see through anything. As you walk past a stranger in the street, you notice something. You turn back, reach into their body and remove a cancerous tumour, saving their life.
For a little R&R, you sip margaritas and watch the ancient Egyptians build the pyramids in a time lapse. You stand at the center of the Sun just to see what it looks like in there, and to work on your tan. You surf the rings of Saturn and travel throughout the Universe, instantly appearing on planets millions of light years away.
Compared to gods like Zeus, who only controlled thunder and lightning, you make them look like ants. You see through time. You understand and control everything in our three dimensional world.
But how did you get these powers? To understand your new life as a 4 dimensional super being, we have to relive every dimension you came through.
You began in zero dimensions, a single theoretical point with no space and no size. Add one dimension, and you live on a line, able to move forward or backward, but nowhere else. Add another, and you’re living on a perfectly flat surface where you can move in two directions.
Then comes the third dimension, depth. Suddenly, the world opens up. Objects have volume and mass. A circle can become a sphere, and you can see all around it, hold it, throw it, and move it through space.
Now take one last look at that comfortable three dimensional world, because you’re about to leave it.
As far as physics is concerned, you’re already a 4 dimensional being. Einstein theorized that time is the fourth dimension. We live in three dimensions but move through time, trapped going in one direction at roughly one second per second.
But imagine suddenly gaining access to it.
You could see everything that’s ever happened and everything that is going to happen. You could hold the timeline like a strip of film, scroll through it, and appear at any point you choose. A locked room wouldn’t matter anymore because you could simply move to a time before the room existed or after it was destroyed.
You could win every lottery, ace every test, and watch the future unfold before returning to the present. But time travel might come with a terrifying price. Every person you interact with and every step you take could change the timeline. One tiny action could create consequences that ripple through history forever.
And then there’s the physical fourth dimension.
A four dimensional space would contain another direction perpendicular to length, width, and depth. A four dimensional cube, called a tesseract, is often represented as a cube inside another cube, but that’s only a shadow of something we cannot truly visualize.
If you could actually enter that dimension, our world would look completely different. You could see through walls, reach inside sealed objects, escape any prison, and see everything hidden beneath the ground.
You could even look inside a human body as easily as we look at a flat drawing. Every organ, bone, process, and cell would be visible. A tumour could be removed without making an incision, making you appear to us as a ghost, a miracle, or something completely impossible.
But 4 dimensions are only the beginning.
Some theories describe additional dimensions containing possible universes, different histories, and even different laws of physics. String theory requires extra dimensions, although these aren’t giant cosmic doorways. They may be incredibly tiny, curled up within the fabric of space itself.
And if there are more dimensions than that, who knows where the ladder ends?
At the highest level, every timeline, every universe, and every possible reality could exist at once. You wouldn’t simply become all powerful. You would become something closer to reality itself. Everything and nothing would somehow meet in the same unified point.
And that is where the idea of dimensions stops feeling like science fiction and starts becoming something much stranger.
